When America found itself at war and its industries faced economic challenges, young, fluid companies such as Robison Textile simply switched gears, supplying thread for military emblems until the war ended. But Robison wasn’t alone in its ambition or its struggle to succeed. Other companies competed for the biggest slice of the pie, and when Anton Yarn Co. was started in 1950 by Harvey Anton, the opportunity for the two companies to merge and become the largest supplier of embroidery thread in the U.S. was a welcome one. They merged in 1959, becoming Robison-Anton Textile Co. Throughout the 60’s they continued to service the Schiffli embroidery industry, and when the first American-made multi-head machine appeared, Robison-Anton greeted it with a multi-head embroidery thread, 002 rayon. The 70’s brought more improvements and modifications to embroidery equipment with Japanese-made multi-heads dominating the industry. In the 1980’s electronic multi-heads demanded an embroidery thread able to withstand the toughest treatment. Robison-Anton answered the call with a super strength rayon thread for use in faster-running electronic machines. Then came expansion. In 1979, a dye house was opened in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, called Bloomsburg Dye Company. In 1985 and 1988, Robison-Anton made acquisitions of twisting and winding plants also in Pennsylvania. In 1989, the Company opened up a new processing plant and completely refit the dye house. In 1990, they built RA Manufacturing, Inc., a modern twisting and winding facility in Clarks Summit, Pa. RA Manufacturing, Inc. expanded again in 1995, and the dye house has been updated in the last few years. During this time, the company grew by focusing on what it does best—embroidery yarns and threads. The temptation to diversify product lines is a temptation that can spell disaster for overly eager companies, and Robison-Anton skillfully avoided it. That’s not to say Robison-Anton’s product line hasn’t undergone changes. From what was once a product line that served the Schiffli embroidery market only, Robison-Anton now serves every phase of embroidery including Schiffli, Multi-Head and Home Sewing. Robison-Anton was acquired by American & Efird Enterprises, Inc. in 2005. A&E plans to operate Robison-Anton as a separate division called "Robison-Anton Textile Company", which will be focused on expanding the embroidery thread business both in the U.S. and throughout the world. Whether your need is for a single needle machine or for a twenty head commercial machine, Robison-Anton leads the market. Because Robison-Anton is the only company that processes and dyes imported filament Rayon and Polyester in one factory and one dye house for optimum control. Our competitors market thread, we dye and finish it right here in America. Robison-Anton’s King Spool and Mini King Spools out performs any traditional sewing spools.
